The maps below show the centre of a small town called Islip as it is now, and plans for its development.
The maps illustrate the existing layout of Islip town centre and the proposed modifications for its redevelopment.
Overall, the development plan aims to introduce more commercial facilities and infrastructure improvements, notably enhancing its shopping and transportation amenities.
In the current layout, the main road cuts through the town centre and is flanked by shops on both sides. This road will be replaced by a pedestrian-only area, with a surrounding dual carriageway redirecting traffic around the town centre. As a result, a new shopping centre will emerge beside a bus station, conveniently catering to both local commuters and visitors.
Additional changes involve expanding housing areas, with two new residential zones set to be established. These will enhance accessibility, as one of the new zones will link directly to the dual carriageway. Consequently, the existing park will be reduced in size to accommodate these developments.
Finally, innovative facilities such as an integrated car park and a pedestrian-friendly market pathway will further improve the town's infrastructure and attractiveness, promoting seamless interaction among its residents.
