Dear Kate, Hope this letter finds you in radiant health and the best of spirits. I am writing this letter to invite you to celebrate Nauryz in Kazakhstan. Last year when I worked in Australia, you wanted to visit me and believe me, it is the best time to come to Kazakhstan. Nauryz marks the beginning of the new year and is celebrated several days starting from 21st of March, the day of the spring equinox. During Nauryz celebrations, past offences are forgiven and forgotten and everyone makes a wish to leave all badness and bring renewal in the new year. City squares get full of yurts (traditional nomadic houses) and many performances take place. Here one can learn about culture and lifestyle of the nomads, listen to Kazakh songs and plays of musical instruments, taste traditional meals like beshparmak, baursak, kuyurdak and other meals made from milk. Nauryz kozhe is the main dish served during the holiday. Traditionally, it contains seven ingredients that symbolize seven values, such as joy, success, wealth, health, intelligence, agility and security.
