Some countries face scarcity of water. But, this has become a worldwide problem due to water’s burgeoning demand. In this essay, I will illustrate the factors contributing to this trend and then elicit certain steps to control its demand. There are compelling reasons for rising applications of fresh water. The main reason is the overpopulation in the metropolitan areas. The global phenomenon of urbanization has compounded this demand for water. In addition, since the beginning of industrialization, water has been increasingly used for manufacturing processes such as chemical reactions, cleaning toxic equipments and so on. Moreover, large amounts of water are being used for recreational purposes. For instance, swimming pools at home, theme parks, and resorts use an avalanche of water. Therefore, water scarcity has risen and is now a global problem. However, certain steps can be taken by governments and individuals to stop the surge in water usage. Firstly, higher prices can be enacted for consuming large amounts of water. In addition, tax deductions may be applicable to those using less. Secondly, governments can invest in the infrastructure and water purification plants to serve the public and organizations. Finally, awareness campaigns can be organized to educate the general public to be stringent in water usage. Consequently, these policies will help in curbing the demand. In conclusion, the factors contributing to the burgeoning demand for water are due to population explosion in cities, industrial activities and recreational purposes. governments can enact higher prices and tax deductions depending on respective water usage. Also, they can invest in its infrastructure and create awareness campaigns to use less.
