Recent advancements in information technology have spurred an argument that schools should increase their expenditure on computers rather than teachers’ wages. Although I agree that computers are necessary to make progress, it should not be at the cost of teachers’ salaries. This essay will highlight the merits and demerits of both the approaches and my opinion.
Smart classes, the ones equipped with computers and internet, are the new normal. Most schools have increased the percentage of expenditure on more computers or projectors to enhance students’ learning experience. Computer aided video lectures, animations, and other photographic digital products, through right brain activation, facilitate long-term learning. This leads to an enhanced memory and more understanding of a desired subject.
On the other hand, teachers play a very important role in a kid’s life. Starting from being their personal guide to a supervisor, a teacher, unlike computers, are always available to advise a student through personal and academic problems. In addition to teaching, personal attention and the compassionate behaviour of teachers can also shape a student’s personality.
In my opinion, a school should focus on investing in computers and teachers alike. If it comes to picking one option, I suggest choosing the latter. This is because a teacher is indispensable even during video lectures. While some videos can be self-explanatory, not all students have the bandwidth to comprehend it. Moreover, a teacher based on his/her judgement can interact with parents to completely leverage a child’s potential.
Concluding, even though the two options have their own advantages and disadvantages and influence a child’s learning curve in its own way, I suggest that a combination of the two approaches be followed for the best experience.
