In recent times, there has been a widespread debate on the way that teachers should teach their classes to students. While some people think that teachers should take the whole time explaining the subject without any interruption from students, I hold the opposite view. I believe that professor should deliver information about any subject through talking with the class.
To begin with, when scholars have the chance to talk during the lecture, they will improve their debating skills. They can learn how to present their ideas in convincing style in order to let other students accept their thoughts. For example, when I was taking English classes at University of Arizona, the teacher used to ask questions about any topics and gave students time to discuss the question together. One day, he asked the class about the side effect of global warming and if there are any benefits from that. Many students participated in the discussion and they were convincing each other about their ideas. Later on, when I worked in an oil company I had a work discussion, I realized that I learned how to accept other ideas and thoughts. Moreover, I learned how to be an active listener where I listen to others without interruption. All these debating skills I was not able to learn them if I did not have any talkative classes at English school.
Adding to the previous point, when teachers allow students to talk in class, they will understand the subject better. Some students can not keep their flow of the subject when they do not understand one point in the lecture unless when they ask questions immediately. For instance, imagine a student who did not understand the concept of gravity since the first minute of the class, so he/she has to go on and miss the topic and examples because he/she did not interrupt the teacher from the beginning of the class and ask for clarification. Indeed, allowing students to talk during class would help them to understand the topic more efficiently.
On top of that, when professors give students some space to talk, the class will be more interactive and energetic. For example, if all students give their opinion about the history class, they will be more concentrated to listen to the lecture and interact with other thoughts. Furthermore, they will not fall to sleep or feel bored as most history classes are.
In conclusion, I encourage instructors to allow students to participate in the class and talk. This is the most effective methods of education that help students to understand better.
