WRITING TASK 1 The graph below shows the proportion of the population aged 65 and over between 1940 and 2040 in three different countries
The line chart given demonstrates the percentage of elder residents in 3 different countries from 1940 to 2040. Overall, it can be clearly seen that there are generally rising trends in the number of people who are above 64 years old in all three nations. In 1940, USA had higher proportion of elder people than Sweden by 3-4%. The number of old people in both nations slowly rose from 1940 to 1980 and then fell down insignificantly in the following 20 years. At this point, the proportion of elder residents in Sweden skyrocketed, bypassed USA and reached a peak in 2018 while the percentage in America hit a trough in 2020. In the future, USA and Sweden are predicted to have higher proportion of people who will be 65 or above. In terms of percentage of elder population in Japan, it had been decreasing simultaneously from 1940 to 1988. After that, the proportion has been gradually gone up for 30 years and is expected to dramatically skyrocket from 2030 to 2040.
