The given table illustrates the number of qualifications for English Language Teachers who obtained in two academic years, 2007/8 and 2008/9 in the UK; with the specific focus on male qualifiers. Overall, as can be seen, the total qualifications for English teachers increased slightly in 2008/9, whereas the percentage of male gaining certificates was a slow decrease in the same period. Another visible trend is that TEFL was the most popular certificate for students in the UK. In the year 2007/8, the total number of students who qualified was 32930, with only 8165 male students. The figure for 2008/9 was higher, with out of a total of 32945 students, only 22, 7% were male and lower compared to 2007 (24, 7%). 17, 3% of male students qualifying Cambridge UCLES CELTA & other degrees with only 1295 male out of 7484 students in 2007, in comparison with 12, 1% of them were male in out of 8028 England students in 2008.
