The maps below show the changes experienced by the town of Lakeside at the beginning of the 21st Century
The maps describe the developments that occurred in Lakeside town between 2000 and 2009. Overall, Lakeside significantly transformed from a mostly residential area with large amounts of forest into one that underwent forest reduction and focused on facilities for studying, working, shopping as well as relaxing. As can be seen, there were noticeable changes in the north of Lakeside during the 10-year period, excluding the residential area in the north-west direction. In 2009, to the east of the residential area, derelict warehouses and old town were cleared and replaced by a car park and offices. Also, the lake in the north-east of Lakeside was turned into a small pond. In addition, to the south of the residential area, a multi-screen cinema was established on what used to be the arts centre. Next to the multi-screen cinema, the school was relocated and a university was built. Similarly, the southern of Lakeside also witnessed significant developments from 2000 to 2009. To the north-west of the river, the residential area was knocked down and replaced by a shopping centre. Moreover, the woodland was only a half of its original size by 2009, as many trees were chopped down to make way for expanding the former industrial complex. The residential in the south of the town was also demolished to make way for the industrial complex.
