The maps below show how the town of Billiton developed over a given period
The maps display the changes that took place in the town of Billiton over a 30-year period from 1975 to 2005. In general, the most noticeable change was the replacement of wasteland with new facilities, which catered primarily to tourism. The basic structure of the town, with two main roads which were aligned in a north-south and east-west direction and intersected at the central area, and with a residential area in the northwestern section, remained essentially unchanged over this period. In 1975, the east side of town had only large stretches of unused land, but by 2005 the swamp had been remodelled to become a lake, and to its right a new restaurant had been built on the site of lowlands. A new path for cyclists had also been constructed to link the residential area with the east of Billinton. In the place of empty government grounds, which initially covered the entire southeastern part, were a tourist shop and a local museum in 2005. In addition, to the left of these establishments, a new public golf course had appeared near smaller wildlife sanctuary, which was only half the size of the original.
