The two pie charts represent how spending habits varied in the US between two time periods, 1971 and 2001. In total the amount of money spent on food, petrol, furniture and books in 1971 decreased over the period. By contrast, money spent on cars, restaurants and computers increased. Money spent on cars and food showed the most significant changes. The other items varied less significantly in terms of expenditure over time. Money spent on food changed the most over the 30 year time period, decreasing by 30% from 1971 to 2001. In contrast to decreased expenditure on food, money spent on cars increased by 21% a substantial difference. The next biggest change was with regards to money spent on computers which increase by 10% over the three decades. In addition, money spent on eating out at restaurants doubled from 7% to 14%. Finally, banks decreased by 5% and furniture decreased very slightly by1% from 1971 to 2001. In summary, expenditure in the United States over the three decade period differed between the various items with food and cars showing the greatest variance
