The diagrams show the cross-sections of two tunnels, one joining France and Italy and the other joining two Japanese islands v.1

The diagrams show the cross-sections of two tunnels, one joining France and Italy and the other joining two Japanese islands v. 1
The diagrams compare the differences of the cross-sections of two tunnels. Figure 1 shows the cross-section of a road tunnel joining two European countries; while figure 2 illustrates a railway tunnel linking two islands in Japan. Overall, as can be seen from the diagrams, the Seikan Railway Tunnel took such a longer construction time compared to the Mont-Blanc Road Tunnel. Also, the Japanese railway tunnel is significantly longer than the road one. The Seikan Railway Tunnel was built under the sea to link the two Japanese cities in two islands namely Hakodate City and Aomori City. It took 42 years to completely finished, from 1946 to 1988, 34 years longer compared to the road tunnel built under Mont-Blanc to join French and Italy, which was built between 1956 and 1965. The depth of the Mont-Blanc Road Tunnel is 3, 5 km; whereas that of the Seikan Railway Tunnel is just 24m. However, the latter has a length of 53, 85 km compared to 11, 60 km of the former.
