The chart below shows the payment methods used most often by us consumers over a four year period
The line graph illustrates the four most popular methods of payment in the US over the period of 2002 to 2005. Overall, debit card had the least significant figure and continuously experienced a shortage in the number of users over the given years. Whereas cheque and credit card underwent an absolutely similar trend in the first two years, but then they were poles apart in the following years.
In details, only cheque and credit card witnessed a growth in the number of consumers after 4 years, although cheque was seen to be in a much sustainable and faster pace, from just about 27 per cent to nearly 35 per cent. Conversely, despite initially having the largest portion in 2002, the number of cash users dramatically declined in 2003 and continue to dip in the next year though it was seen to regain its popularity and re-encounter credit card proportion in 2005.
On the other hand, debit card remained the least popular method, just about half the percentage of cheque and credit card in the first year, and only one-third of credit card percentage in 2005, resulting in a large gap amongst its figure and other ones.
