1. Do you think consumers should avoid over packaged products or it is the responsibility of the producer to avoid extra packaging of products? ” Give your views or any relevant example with your own experience.
Over packaging of the products have become a trend these days and also a medium to attract consumers with more attractive packaging. Following this trend producers often forget the detrimental effects it has on both environment and consumers, which is one of the main concerns because of which the consumers need to make an informed decision about the products they buy.
Packaging’s can often be deceiving, and lead customers to have an utterly contrasting view about the product than what it actually is. Over packing increases the price of the product which is then again taken from the consumers. There have been cases where the cost of packaging is more than the cost of the product itself. Moreover, manufacturers often use non-disposable wrappers and packets which adds to the effects on the environment.
There are some reasonable arguments in favour of over packaging as well, because the more attractive a package looks these days the more people prefer it and hence packaging becomes a significant factor for selling more. Survey suggests that sales have increased by seventeen percent just because of attractive packaging for many companies. Also, for keeping some products intact and fresh it is sometimes necessary to use over packaging, for example, in the case of some biscuit packs, we can see that the biscuits are placed in the small plastic tray and covered with multiple layers of packets. In such cases manufacturers can argue stating that over packaging is being done for the benefit of customers.
In the end, undoubtedly, extra packaging of products has a detrimental effect on the society; however, consumers should avoid over-packaged products to solve the negative effects it possessed to them and to the environment which will in turn clout manufacturers to change the way they are packing products.
