It is a fact that transportation has become a big part of modern life. While some people believe the best way to travel in the city is by car, others believe the bicycle is better. In this essay, I will discuss both sides of the argument and explain why I tend to agree with the former idea. Firstly, vehicles which are used non-renewable sources of energy are leaving lots of carbon print to our environment. To decrease this harm greener alternative should be preferred and bicycles are one of them. To clarify, bicycles are working with kinetic energy which applied to the pedals by people. Also, this movement is improving the human body in a very healthy way, unlike cars and other transportations. Amsterdam is a very popular example of a successful bike-friendly city. For instance, the most authentic way to see the city is by cycling and also there are around 500 km lanes which dedicated to just a bicycle. On the other hand, not all countries are having this type of infrastructure for cycling. It might because of the structuring of the city, or climate. To illustrate, in big cities or in a city with a snowy climate, it can be hard to reach everywhere in the city by cycling. In these types of circumstances, unfortunately, a bicycle is no more an option to the citizens and cars will be safer. Because of that, hybrid or electric cars should be preferred to help the environment and reduce the carbon footprints they left. In conclusion, the debate between which is better has both pros and cons. Although bicycles are healthier and greener, they are not suitable for every city’s transportation. Personally, I believe cars are more useful and by using hybrid or electric cars, the damage they are causing to our environment could be decreased.
