Some university teachers prefer to record their lectures in advance so that students can familiarize themselves with the material before class Then teachers can use the class time to help students to practice what they learned while watching or listening v. 2
Nowadays, teachers tend to figure out any possible methods when it comes to having classes for the betterment of their students. Some teachers even come up with the idea to record lectures before the class in order to let students become familiar with the material, and thus they can focus on practicing in class. This approach has gained some applaud to a certain extent since it can boost their effectiveness in study, and I am a supporter of it for the following reasons. First and foremost, watching the lecture video in advance enables students have a comprehensive view towards the context, facilitating them to ask more questions in class. As is known to all, students get improved asking various questions, which is definitely a symbol of critical thinking. Nevertheless, if they just learned some knowledge in class, there is no time for them to produce questions. For instance, my brother Jackson is not a clever student in high school, and it takes him a long time to carefully figure out a geometrical conception in class. Luckily, after his math teacher started giving them the lecture video before class, he had sufficient time to think through every new concept, which made him have a clear perspective of his question and he could ask his teacher immediately. Another point worth mentioning is that students can be more effective since they can save time by only practicing in class, leaving the task receiving new knowledge at home. There is no doubt that some students benefit greatly from learning before the class, as they save large amounts of time for in-class time. As the old saying goes, practice makes perfect, students doing exercises around their teacher can be more effective than doing at home. It is not hard to imagine how ineffective it will be if a student does homework while surfing the internet and chatting with their friends. However, he will concentrate on practicing provided that he is in the classroom with his teacher around. There is no wonder he will have higher study efficiency. Admittedly, some students prefer learning in class to watching their teacher’s face on a computer screen due to their fixed habit above ten years. Nonetheless, considering the benefits of students learning in advance, it would not hurt for teachers preparing classes in that way for the sake of students’ overall effectiveness. To put it into a nutshell, teachers are well-advised to record the lecture before class because it can save students’ precious time for more questions and practice in class by them trying to understand the material in advance.
