The table presents the percentage of people from each household type living in poverty in Australia in 1999. At first glance, it is evident that there were six household types living in poverty, accounting for 11 percent. It can be seen from the table that the percentage of aged couples was the lowest of the six family types, at just under 5 percent. There were 54000 people living in poverty from single aged person and 211000 people who lived in poverty from family that has a couple and no children, accounting for 6 percent and 7 percent respectively. The proportion of sole parents was the highest, occupying at just over 20 percent. The figure for single families that has no children was lower than sole parents by 2 percent, whereas there were 933000 people living in poverty from household type that has a couple with children, at 12 percent.
