The line graphs illustrate the amount of three spreads that consumers ate between 1981 to 2007. Overall, there was a dramatically change in each category. Both in consumption of butter and margarine, the trends decreased, while that of low fat and reduced spreads had a significant rise. There was a slight increase in the amount of butter that people consumed, from 140 grams to 160 grams over 5-year period. After that, this figure fell considerably to 50 grams in 2007. The figure of consumption of Margarine had a slight increase of 10 grams between 1981 and 1991. Then, after remained stably over 5-year period, this number fell steadily from 100 grams in 1996 to only 40 grams in 2007. In contrast, consumers were prone on low fat and reduced spreads. There was a sharp rise in the figure of that, from only 10 grams in 1996 to just over 80 grams in 2001, though this figure had a slight drop to 70 grams in 2007.
