The figure gives information about smoking habit of the UK population by age
The chart compares smoking habits of six different age groups of people living in the UK. It is clear that the majority of England citizens are non-smokers. Additionally, people tend to quit smoking as they get older. 16-24 age group has the highest rate of individuals who never smoke, at over 60%, while only less than 45% people aged 65 to 74 have never consumed tobacco. It is interesting to note that people in the ages of 25 and 34 are more likely to be a light smoker than other group, with more than 30% of those surveyed, compared to just only 10% of the oldest group. As regard to figures for heavy smokers, middle-aged citizens have the higher proportion of heavy smokers than any other groups. 45-54 age group has the highest percentage of heavy tobacco consumers, at around 15%, followed by 12% of people aged between 35 and 44. Meanwhile, the ex-smoker rates in two oldest groups are highest, at 40% and 25% respectively.
