I have no doubt that there is a connection between peer pressure and students’ self-development. Indeed, in our youth, it is consequently vital for a number of boys and girls that there was at least some kind of feedback from the group. This is, for example, the evaluation by the girl of a young man which is merely learning to establish relationships with the opposite sex, and the evaluation of the freshman by the experienced professor, whom she looks at as a father and an oracle. When the school years are already behind us, ordinarily we want to be loved not only in a narrow circle of the family, we do not have abundance approval from a couple of teachers, we need the recognition of the humankind. We come to the academy for some hard skills, and we get a number of soft skills in addition. Moreover, we usually learn to find a common language with our rivals, with people which are older than us, and may be a year later, with those who are younger, in the light of the fact that one day, no doubt, some of our knowledge will be helpful to inexperienced freshmen. We learn to agree and refuse, insist on our own and retreat, calculate the steps of competitors and make allies. The recognition of the fact that more frequently than not only teamwork gives the chances for the success of the project.
Probably, when we grow up, associate assessment becomes less significant. Behind us are several brilliant career victories and offensive losses, on the contrary for the graduate they are still ahead. It is not for nothing that numerous teachers in educational institutions try to play on what this or that student is ready to do in order to take a top place among their peers. Nevertheless, it is critical to fully control the process, in no case to cross the dangerous line. After all, scholars are sometimes ready for such actions that will not benefit either their mental health or their physical development. In youth, for example, it is so easy to spend 8 hours at a laptop. You usually don't think about getting up and stretching your muscles a little. And about how risky it is for the back, a young man or girl who is just starting the process of studying may not even know. So, it seems to me that in general, university professors should not heat up the situation by fomenting unhealthy competition among students.
