Dear Scholarship Committee,
I am writing to express my interest in the MSc Education (Teaching and Learning) programme offered by the School of Education at the University of Bristol as it greatly matches my academic interests and professional goals.
After earning my bachelor’s degree in Translation, I mainly worked in educational institutions in various administrative positions where I gained invaluable knowledge and experience about the national and international education systems. Also, my involvement in international projects such as Erasmus and Tempus has provided me a deeper insight into the European Union higher education system (Bologna Process, ECTS Credit System, UK key stages, etc. ) and improved my research and analytical skills. These experiences led me to become an English teacher in order to share my knowledge and expertise with younger generation in my country.
Thanks to my colleague at the lyceum who mentioned about the American English E-Teacher scholarship, during the summer of 2019, I had an opportunity to participate in several short online courses including TESOL Methodology, Using Educational Technology in the English Language Classrooms, Teaching Grammar Communicatively which helped to prepare and deliver better lessons to my students.
Then, there might arise a question why you want to pursue Master’s course in Education in the UK while you can enroll in and study in your own country. First of all, the MSc Education in Teaching and Learning programme is not offered in Uzbekistan. Another reason is that scholarship grant will ease my financial burden as my income is beyond my capacity to enroll in an international postgraduate course as a usual student. Apart from that, international education helps me more to update my knowledge and educational standing. Being amongst the multicultural community where English is spoken as the L1 provides me a great opportunity not only to enhance my language proficiency, but also become closely familiar and learn more about the UK culture and society and promote own culture and traditions. Moreover, real communication with native speakers in the UK and engaging in numerous academic and cultural activities will be irreplaceable experience which would only be possible through this programme’s scholarship.
Upon completion of the postgraduate study in the UK and upon return to Uzbekistan, I will be better equipped with international experience, strong theoretical and practical expertise who can deliver effective and professionally designed courses by applying different methods and techniques in order to motivate and inspire my students and develop academic modules independently. I will also be able to contribute to the development of Uzbekistan’s education system by focusing my close attention to the improvement of assessment and testing systems, learning and teaching process and its management, educational technology and psychology.
Thank you for your time for reviewing my application.
Sincerely,
Ravshan E. Rikhsiyev
