Dear Mr. Scott I refer to your plans to film a travel programme segment on Penang in July 2018 as published in the Star newspaper last week. I am the President of the Tourism Council of Penang, and I would like to share some input about Penang that I believe would be helpful for your program. I have acted as the President of the Tourism Council of Penang for the last 5 years, and have gained much insight during my tenure as President on the attractions of Penang and what people love about the state. To drive tourism in the state, the Council frequently carries out surveys on what tourists find interesting when they visit and hence, we also have firsthand local knowledge of Penang. Based on the information I have gleaned, I believe that your programme should focus on the Georgetown area, the heritage zone of Penang. The well-restored buildings in the heritage area are aesthetically pleasing, and tourists can enjoy the cultural sights while wandering around the town. Local food and drink and vendors catering to the tourists are also plentiful in the area. This view is supported by the Tourism Council’s survey of tourists in 2018 which showed that most tourists head to this area when they visit Penang. I would be glad to offer my services to take you on a reconnaissance trip around Georgetown at any time of your convenience so you may experience the area for yourself prior to filming.
