Dears Admissions Committee, As a matter of fact, the Gaza Strip has been witnessing a dramatic increase of acute and pressing environmental issues. Based on statistics, more than 99% of groundwater, the key and only source of drinking water in the Gaza Strip, is undrinkable due to sea water intrusion. In addition, the Gaza Strip has a dense population of more than 2 million with a tremendous number of cars in a hectic spot of 365 kilometer square. Having this accentuated, the environmental predicaments where I live utterly urge me to embark upon a journey to acquire professional knowledge and cutting-edge experience to contribute in technically finding urgent solutions to the abovementioned problems in the Gaza Strip. In 2018 - September to 2019 - August, I was assigned as a teaching assistant at the Islamic University of Gaza as I was ranked the top in my class in the major of Civil Engineering. In my position, I taught six courses at the university as I was responsible for explaining practical parts of the courses and solving many problems for each chapter. My journey as an academic boosted my research skills, deepened my understanding not only in academic teaching, but also in profoundly preparing the lectures in a timely manner and delivering engineering information at its simplest. I genuinely perceived how suffering it is to work in the farmlands in Gaza when I worked as a Surveying and Drawing Engineer in the Palestinian Land Authority in Gaza in September, 2018 to January, 2019. Following my experience in the Authority, I observed the farmers struggling from the deficit of irrigation water. My experience in this regard was awarding to network with various professional engineers and researchers. Indeed, the Chief Executive Officer of the project was stunned by my work and thus needed me for prospective positions. I have a burning desire to integrate my knowledge I acquired through my 4 years in my major with the courses I will be involved in through the 4 semesters at different universities. I aspire to bridge my culture and language with other cultures and people of different backgrounds I will be introduced to during my studies. In particular, I am passionate about learning much about the Czech language and culture. As well as, specialized engineering writing skills modules will be of full benefit not only for me, but also for other young students back in my homeland as I plan on giving back to my community when I return back to the Gaza Strip. What arouses my motives towards joining this program is that I will link the environmental problems my country faces with the courses of environmental technologies and applications I will be attending; this all in all will be of full assistance to contribute in reducing solid waste problems in my country. Being said, I will be enabled to create an atmosphere of sustainable development and solutions pertaining the environmental issues I am interested in. As a student at my home university, I was not privileged to go through in-company research, scientific research and in-depth research, yet I believe that this program will make me a better problem-solver, self-reflector and thinking-designer. During teaching at my home university, I felt how conventional the teaching methods were, so I worked hard on creating different chances for my students by asking them to do research away from traditionally doing assignments. Thus, I have a vision of being an academic to deliver my students knowledge using modern methods I will be exposed to while studying in this program. Thereafter, I am keen on launching specialized workshops, campaigns and technical discussions that will aim at introducing the students to contemporary solutions, examples of international environmental approaches and experiences and strategies on how we can best work on our home problems. Holding video conferences with professionals, scholars and engineers I will meet will unquestionably be my first step I incline to execute for the young students at my home. Eventually, I am very much excited to join the IMETE Alumni Community as to develop, design, propose and create innovative ideas for a better and a healthier world.
