Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, Members of the Department of International Affairs I am writing to you to present my nomination for the SMILE international mobility program, an agreement promoted through the Magalhães Network that includes the Universidad Tecnológica de Panamá (UTP), my home university and the Université Catholique de Louvain (UCL), as host institution. Within the available modalities, I wish to apply for the: research internship. The Commission of Graduation Works of the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the UTP endorses quantifying this internship as my option for graduation work, as a bachelor thesis. The action plan to be developed was prepared with the collaboration and guidance of professors José Gallardo from the UTP and João Almeida from the UCL, the assigned topic is of particular interest to me as it is a subject of technical knowledge mastery and national relevance. For our country, the value of this study ranges from its dissemination as a contribution to the academic resources available for the scientific community; to the contribution of new knowledge of practical application for the construction industry in future projects, since we have areas of high seismicity, for which creative solutions in earthquake-resistant design are urgently required. Being part of this experience would not only equip me with the necessary tools to put my talents at the service of my fellow men and become a professional capable of facing latent problems in our country, but it would also allow me to: consolidate my intellectual competencies, acquire abilities and skills, and orient me towards specialization. It is such that; My greatest desire is to reciprocate this growth, guaranteeing you a participation with human quality, motivated, diligent, responsible and committed. Respected evaluating team, I am a person who contributes to society even before I knew that certificates were awarded for helping others if the fruit of my work can produce inspiration and promote research, prestige, and ambition for progress in the present and future generations, I will be fully satisfied. No single person could build a rocket ship or a particle accelerator, but thanks to our ability to work together and share information between generations, we can overcome changes far beyond our thoughts. The most recent and impetuous change that has challenged us all is the persistent pandemic, where we learned that you can always be better prepared to resist obstacles. What better place to train for such obstacles than the highly equipped and award-winning Institute of Mechanics, Materials and Civil Engineering, iMMC at UCLouvain. I look forward to hearing from you and, if possible, conducting productive research.
