Why are you a suitable candidate?
Why have I chosen to apply to this programme?
As a pharmacy graduate from Al-Zaytoonah University of Jordan who is aspiring to pursue my graduate studies in a related branch of science that is fast-growing and has the most impact on human life, biotechnology was the program of choice for me. In, particular, biotechnology is one of the most revolutionary and transformative fields of sciences today. Its importance lies upon the fact that the impact it has on human lives is tremendous and in multiple aspects, it has infiltrated plant, animal, and human systems. More significantly, its roll extends from enhancing plant cultivation to improving human health through drug discovery, vaccine production and genetic modification. For instance, the PCR test that the whole world relies upon to detect COVID-19 infection, and all the vaccines we take including those produced for coronavirus, all of that and many more have emerged with the help of biotechnology. Thus, after diving deeply into the realms of this science by taking the pharmaceutical biotechnology course at university, I developed a keen interest in biotechnology and decided that this is the field that I want to pursue in my future endeavors.
Why did you apply to study in Hungary?
As a pharmacy graduate who’s aspiring to pursue graduate studies in biotechnology, I was excited to know about Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship.
In addition to the well-recognized, top-quality education in Hungary, it has the advantage of having an affordable living costs compared to the rest of Europe. Moreover, it has an international environment where there is a great opportunity to meet people from all around the world. Not to mention the vibrant cultural life and the amazing heritage sites all around the country.
What challenges would you expect to encounter while studying in a foreign country, and how could you prepare for these challenges?
Take them as an opportunity to increase my capacity to adapt.
The challenges that I expect to encounter while studying in Hungary are the language barrier and the cultural differences. For the language barrier, I will prepare myself firstly by considering it as an opportunity to learn something new, then by taking an online preparatory course which will make it a lot easier for me when I get there. For the cultural differences, I will do extensive research on the internet to learn about the culture in Hungary as much as possible, which will make me well-prepared before getting there.
Why does my background make me a suitable candidate?
I possess the three fundamental characteristics: innate passion, preparatory knowledge, and fast-developing skills.
Strong background in biology, chemistry and related subjects
All of this will make me able to effectively achieve and contribute…
Fortunately, I was able to work with my professor with some of her research and learn some laboratory techniques such as cell-culturing and RNA extraction
What do I expect to gain from my studies?
I expect to gain a deep understanding about biotechnology and acquire professional laboratory skills in the field, all of which will allow me to conduct proper research and be able to contribute in the advancement of this field which will eventually lead to the development of the society. Essential methods and techniques in biotechnology
How will the programme help me to achieve my goals?
With the knowledge and skills that will gain from this program, it will greatly help me pursue my future goal which is continuing further to PhD studies.
How will you apply your new skills and qualifications when you return home?
My long-term future goal is to establish international research groups that will work together in improving scientific knowledge and contributing in the development of humankind
How does your proposed study relate to a particular development challenge or need at the global, national, and/or local level?
The world constantly needs advancements in healthcare, whether in inventing easy diagnostics for diseases, or discovering new drugs, this is best achieved through biotechnology. The whole world is facing challenges in healthcare, there’s still incurable or difficult to treat diseases, and if there is they are quite expensive and not everyone can afford it. Thus biotechnology can come up with insightful ideas that will strongly impact the healthcare throughout the world.
How will you apply your new skills and qualifications when you return home?
The curriculum is practice-oriented and provides the necessary skills for graduates to start work immediately after graduation in the biotech or pharma industries or to enroll in a PhD program. The programme provides opportunities for students to become involved in research activities in various departments of the Faculties of Medicine and Science or to prepare diploma work in biotechnology-based SMEs (Small or Medium Enterprises) or in the pharmaceutical industry. The University is a member of the European Biotechnology Network, an association which actively supports the program.
