Dear Scholarship Selection Committee,
Thank you for this opportunity. My name is Abdul-Basit Ilori, and I am writing this essay to support my application for a scholarship award to study in Hungary.
I am a perfect fit for this scholarship because I am passionate about helping people and making life-changing differences in their lives.
Ever since my father told me my mother died from postpartum complications after my birth, I have wanted to become a medical practitioner so that I can find the best possible ways to help other families prevent such an outcome.
I plan to follow up my medical studies with an extensive understudy of Homeopathy and a post-graduate degree in public health. This scholarship will undoubtedly contribute significantly towards achieving my dreams of helping individuals and communities.
In high school, I would frequently volunteer to assist my mentor in treating his patients and dispensing drugs. This experience helped me to learn how to research better and be observant. It also helped me understand the concept of happiness and fulfillment through serving people.
After completing high school in 2014, I went on to study Biochemistry, where I extensively studied biochemical processes, macro-molecules, genetics, enzymes and lots more.
In 2016, I took up an internship at one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in Nigeria, where I was exposed
to the fine art of drug sample collection, testing and mass production.
The zeal and willingness to serve and contribute to my society made me join the world’s largest voluntary youth organization through a local scout group in school — The World Organization of Scout Movement.
Through this platform and my local religious group, I was fortunate to serve in various leadership and followership positions and performed a plethora of volunteer works.
I was involved in several campaigns, including blood donation campaigns to blood banks, free eye tests, and distribution of eyeglasses. I was also involved in campaigns that eschewed violence in high schools and promoted peace, and those that promoted afforestation and contributed to clean and fresh air.
I have also attended several virtual and physical training programs and seminars on emergency and first aid responses and CPR.
These experiences have helped improve my interpersonal and critical thinking skills and my problem solving and leadership skills.
Perhaps these qualities contributed to being nominated as one of the 100 most influential students on campus.
Despite my family’s financial hurdles, I have always done what is necessary to expand my experience and learn new things.
Late last year, I took an online course on digital marketing to help me understand the world of marketing and communications.
It came in handy when I was employed to handle the Communications Department for a small startup fintech company
briefly.
Currently, I am undergoing an internship program at a hospital in Niger State, an experience that I know will further enhance my knowledge and skills.
I chose to study Medicine in Hungary because of its rich cultural diversity and heritage and its universities that offer high-quality education with hands-on experience, which makes it rank among the top educational systems in the world.
Being awarded this scholarship and learning in any of the best and culturally diverse institutions in Hungary would be an incredible opportunity and one I intend to judiciously use for the benefit of my country and humankind at large.
Undoubtedly, I would face several challenges living abroad, including culture and language barrier, but it is an adventure that I have trained for all my life as a scout member.
Should I be considered for this scholarship, I would strive to be a good representative and ambassador throughout my stay at the university.
I thank you for taking the time to evaluate my support essay, and I look forward to arriving in Hungary soon.
