Write a personal statement for the course Masters in Statistics (Data Science). QKLkw
My fascination with Mathematics and Statistics is present in my blood inherited from my parental family. My love for the subject started way back in Grade 10 when I started learning about its real-life applications. My motivation also increased enormously when I scored the second-highest marks in Mathematics i. e. , 96 out of 100 in the high school examinations. Therefore, I decided to pursue a Bachelor in Mathematics from the University of Delhi. Later, while attending one of the workshops at the University, I came to learn about the fundamentals of the internet used in Mathematics and Statistics. With a wide range of numerical learning abilities and problem-solving techniques, my undivided attention grew towards data handling and analysis in the Information Technology domain. Hence, I am thrilled to gain mastery in Statistics (Data Science) from Imperial College London. It was an overwhelming experience to get acquainted with a wide range of subjects in Mathematics throughout under-graduation. Calculus and Probability & Statistics were among my favourite topics. I also enjoyed learning certain software, like Mathematica and R programming. Academic assignments and live discussions lend a hand to boost my mathematical, analytical, presentational and computational skills. The in-class competitiveness helped me to grow as a fearless Mathematician. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I got an opportunity to interact with various professors globally through webinars and workshops, which further enhanced my learning capability of applied mathematics modules and gave the idea to pinpoint the next milestone to accomplish the end goal in data science, analytic or statistical related course structure. Apart from studies, I paid equal attention to extracurricular activities and internships intending to develop my personality. As the President of the Department of Mathematics at my college, I often encountered challenges like technical glitches in online competitions, which helped develop professional planning and executing skills. I got an opportunity to overcome a stage fear through various national dramatics competitions. My active participation at various National Cadet Corps activities helped me analyse my area of interest besides academics and I also inculcated the skills to work with unity and discipline. In the final year, I decided to write research papers on two different topics along with the team which covered both my interest as well as my area of interest. “Curbing Bushfires in Australia (Using Mathematical Modelling)”, project gave me a chance to make use of the theoretical knowledge gained in the class. I contributed to the history, causes and ways to overcome massive bushfires in Australia. Data acquiring, sorting and analyzing them (using Excel and Power BI) was the most challenging part for me. Additionally, I got a chance to familiarize myself with the Technology at the same time by using the internet up to a great extent and interacting with Australian scholars through Skype and Zoom meetings. Through this, my interest took a step forward in the IT domain. The second project “Impact of COVID-19 on the Indian economy”, the portion was written by my emphasis on the employment sector in India. I am delighted that I got an opportunity to interact with various people and get aware of the job market and the issues faced by the freshers in grabbing a job at Indian Multinational Companies. I also acquired some graphics media designing skills while working at the research centre. For outstanding academics and extracurriculars, I was staged with a scholarship and an award for All-rounder best student of the college that further encouraged me to pursue my dream course at dream University and perform exceptionally good at it. I acquire management skills like strategy building, event planning, and execution from the Aashman Foundation internship. I worked as a Social Media Marketing intern at Vrikshit Foundation, became skilled at market analysis and ways to promote brands/events via social networking sites. Later, I worked as a Human Resource Intern at eigoPaathshala that helped me to become a peacemaker. . I am thrilled to learn such exceptional and high-in-demand skills. Currently, I am pursuing a certification course in Data Analytics from Delhi University, where I like solving various real-life corporate problems using Business Intelligence tools, such as Power BI, Tableau and SQL. I have an urge to gain more knowledge of the subject, prominently to expertise my profile. A Master degree in Statistics (Data Sciences) from Imperial College London aided the students to attain essential skills that would enhance the profile for a bright future. The ICL has been recognized as one of the top-5 universities in the UK for its excellent alumni network and high career rate. The university has impressive campus settings, great infrastructure, and, more importantly, seasoned professors. The comprehensive coursework will ensure that I develop a solid foundation in Mathematics & Statistics. The coursework includes modules that I am very eager to explore, investigate and obtain proficiency in. With a Master's in Statistics (Data Science) from Imperial College London, I will achieve my career goal of becoming a Data Scientist. In the long run, I wish to come back to my home country, India and help my father in his Frozen Foods business to nurture by analysing and processing the databases. Therefore, I humbly request you to consider my application to fulfil my realistic goal.
