Overall, the wheat export in Australia decreased over time while the export in Canada and European countries saw an upward trend with some fluctuations. It is noticeable to see that Canada had the highest oscillations throughout the period.
Initially, in 1985, Canada exported the highest quatity of wheat which approximately 19 million tons. Subsequently, in the next year, it decreased slightly to about 17 million tons before it significantly increased in the following two years, reaching 25 million tons in 1988, which is the peak of the whole period. However, it plunged by 11 million tons from 25 million tons in 1988 to under 15 million tons in 1989. After that, it settled to 20 million tons at the end of the period. The European countries exported approximately 17. 5 million tons of wheat in 1985 and the export fell under 15 million tons in 1986. Then, it rose to 15 million tons in the subsequent year and remained steady in 1988. EU’s wheat export surged in the next two years and in the last year of period, their wheat export was more than 20 million tons.
On the other hand, as regard the downward trend, the quantity of wheat export in Australia were down over the period. It started at 15 million tons in 1985. After that, the import improved with at least 1 million tons before it continously declined in the next years, hitting the lowest wheat export figure as little as 12 million tons in 1990
