Heating appliances consume the most energy in the Australian household, accounting for about 42% and water heating is the second highest contributing to around 30%, while, other appliances use only 15% of the total energy in Australia. Refrigeration, lighting and cooling devices are the least among all only 7%, 4% and 2% respectively.
Regarding greenhouse emissions, water heating emits around 32%, the highest among all, followed by the other appliances which is 28%. Refrigeration is responsible for around 14% of the total greenhouse emissions in Australia, while, heating, cooling and lighting devices are nearly a quarter, all together.
