Overall, the households in owned accommodation has decreased while, the rented accommodation has experienced an increase in the percentage. To begin with, in 1918, households which are owned in England and Wales accounted for about 78%, whereas the houses which are rented are just a small minority. Owned accommodations witnessed a gradual decline in its percentage and dropped to exactly a half while the rented houses rose to exactly 50% in the year 1971. In 1981, houses which are owned continued to decline gradually and reached at 30% in 2011 after which it experienced an insignificant increase in the final year. However, the rented accommodation continued to escalate and reached its peak around 70% in 2011. Furthermore, it experienced a marginal decline of 3% to 4% in 2011.
