The reading claims that Asteroids are a better option to colonize humans on it rather than planets. It provides three reasons to claim this idea. First, the reading asserts that since asteroids are smaller than planets, there is a lower gravity on them. Therefore, landing and taking off from asteroids are easier and need less fuel. The professor opposes this idea by explaining that in low gravities certain risks are threatening human health such as losing muscle mass and bone density. He adds that astronauts that live in spaceships for a while encounter these kinds of health problems and if humans want to stay for a longer time on asteroids, there will be chief issues for their bodies. Second, the reading states that asteroids have valuable elements which are rare on the earth, and space companies can transport these elements to make a profit out of them. However, the professor believes that the cost of supporting colonies on the asteroids will be really expensive. Also, transporting elements from space to the earth will be high-price as well. He mentions that when companies transport an enormous amount of elements to the earth, they will lower the markets' needs and reduce the price of elements which in turn will not be profitable for them anymore. Third, the reading claims that some asteroids get very close to the earth, therefore, it will be cheaper and easier to send humans to close distances. The professor refutes this idea and argues that asteroids are unusual and they can move far away from the earth after they get close to it. He thinks that getting to the asteroid while it is close to the earth is easy but coming back from it will be challenging. When the asteroids move away from the earth, they can get far away to the planets like mars, and make the coming back process very difficult.
