Every time I was asked the question “what do you want to be? ”, I always had one particular answer, to be an Engineer. Right from my childhood, I was fascinated by the machines around me. Just about anything from a ceiling fan to an aeroplane. And when I learnt the stories behind them, I was intrigued to learn the science behind them. One such machine that captivated me with its complex mechanisms obscured by its artistic build was automobiles. The alluring nature of automobiles and my curiosity to learn about their hidden complexity made me choose Automobile Engineering as my Bachelor’s degree.
After careful and sedulous research, I chose Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering for my undergraduate. The course striking a perfect balance between practical and theoretical modules helped me get the basics right. The modules on Thermodynamics, Fluid mechanics and Mechanics of machines brought me closer to my quest. The module “Automotive Engines” in my second year of study backed up by the in-plant training I received from TVS Motor company revealed the science under the hood. During my time with them, I was trained by industrial experts on Engine Supporting Systems, Fuel Injection systems, Emission Standards, and other subsystems, all while being exposed to the industrial environment. The hands-on experience on Troubleshooting techniques, Dismantling and Assembly of an IC engine and a motorbike aided me to get the knack of servicing a two-wheeler to a point where I started servicing my motorbike by myself.
Not just stopping with the two-wheelers, I wanted to extend my grasp onto four-wheelers. Accordingly, I made my way into an Internship with Ford Motor Company, where I was lectured by real-time professionals on Powertrain, Pollution Control, Vehicle Dynamics and many other topics. Working on the ever-occupied workshop (service floor) honed my Time Management, Resource Management, Budgeting, Team Working skills and other soft skills along with the technical ability to tune and service a four-wheeler.
My perpetual desire for knowledge made me venture beyond the confines of my curriculum, pursuing a number of internships and courses. One such Internship with Elite Techno Groups made me acquainted with the concepts of FEA and CFD. Developing an affinity towards Computer Aided Engineering, I felt comfortable learning numerous CAD/CAM software such as SolidWorks, Autodesk Fusion 360, Creo Parametric and Ansys.
Considering my skill set, I was chosen to lead the Design Team of “Traxion Offroading”, a squad representing my undergraduate institution in Baja SAE, an intercollegiate competition where undergraduate and graduate engineering students from all over India are challenged to design and build an off-road vehicle. This experience enhanced my Leadership and Mentorship Skills.
The time I spent learning about Automotives and being involved with a variety of CAE software made me inclined to pursue my career in this field. In time, I picture myself as a proficient design engineer working for a reputed Automotive manufacturer like Bentley, where I can bring about progress to my career while contributing to the ever-growing industry. Hence after careful contemplation, I felt the need to pursue higher studies to be upskilled and keep up with the growing trends of the industry.
Looking upon the prestigious car-makers like Bentley, Aston Martin, Rolls Royce, it was my instinct to choose their Home as the destination for my masters. The United Kingdom, apart from being one of the industrialised countries with excellent infrastructure, offers a unique engineering curriculum. Particularly the Automotive Engineering courses, that impart unparalleled skills, sought by leading car manufacturers stand unrivalled elsewhere in the world.
On the hunt for my dream, I came upon the ultimate course that answers all my needs, offered by Coventry University. The industry-based curriculum and extensive facilities offered at your university make it the perfect niche to strengthen my knowledge. In Particular, the distinct modules in this course like Engineering Simulation and Analysis, Design Principles and Practise will bolster me with the in-demand design and software skills to attain the anticipated career goal. Therefore, I am applying to the Automotive Engineering MSc course at your University. I look forward to being a part of your renowned institution and in the long-term, an expert in the automotive sector, eventually leading the way for a team of budding passionate engineers.
