Motivation letter Degree: Master Nazarbayev University I am writing to express my interest in the Masters Program in the field of Molecular Biology at Nazarbayev University as it has always been my age-long ambition to become a scientist. Explore the nature of living things always appeals to me because I am a very curious person. I believe that this curiosity will someday help to achieve useful results or even more - save someone’s life. At Medical University in Nur-Sultan I was provided with a good education and had good teachers, one of which aroused my interest in Molecular Biology and Genetics. At that time she was just an assistant at the department (now she is a professor) and once she taught our group a lesson instead of a professor. We discussed things that I had never thought of before and did not even know about their existence. What shocked me the most, is that with the help of genetic engineering it is possible to make changes in someone’s DNA before the birth, which can even affect future abilities or appearance of a person. Then I decided that I want to know more, that I want to be involved directly in the process. Furthering my studies in internship gave me a clear view of the human organism: the way it functions in norm and in pathology. I also saw the breadth and depth of issues yet unknown or underexplored by science. During two years Pediatrics internships, I have seen various cases, different diseases, including pre-natal malformations and their consequences. Volunteering for the night duties on several occasions, I have learned how to think fast and keep “cold mind” in unexpected situations. My passion lies in the research on mechanisms of disease or malformation development and ways to prevent them at the very beginning in the molecular level. Therefore, after completing my internship, I plan to continue my studies in the areas of Molecular medicine and Genetics. I am strongly motivated to succeed in this area. My current university gave me a strong theoretical and practical foundation for future studies, but starting from the fourth year of studies the focus shifted away from theory and research. I could resume studies in the area of my interest upon graduating, but the type of exploration I aim to participate in requires an internationally recognized diploma, which my university is unable to provide at the moment. This is the reason why I choose Nazarbayev University, which offers an excellent opportunity to unlock the potential in the scientific sphere and not only by conducting analyses, experiments, using the most advanced technologies. Many scholars and students leave the country to get a “good” education in Europe, America or Canada. I cannot understand this at all, why to go so far, because Kazakhstan has a university meeting all world standards as well. From the program, I hope to gain a deeper understanding of physiological processes in the human body in molecular level in particular, of genetic mechanisms and repercussions on all levels, in the organism, as well as to become more aware of less understood phenomena. I am a hard-working, conscientious student, and looking forward to a new academy life. I am confident that my academic knowledge along with my skills and expertise gained from various experiences will make me succeed in the esteemed profession of Molecular science. I believe this way being a good step towards my dream because in the future I want to get a PhD too.
