The professor supports universities with a dual focus, but the author of the reading passage is clearly against them. The first point that is discussed relates to the time it takes to be prepared for classes. According to the professor, the time professors spend at conferences and doing research prepares them for class, rather than taking away from their preparation time. The research and professional development make it easier to plan lessons because they stay current in the field. The author of the reading article argues that researching takes time away from preparation instead of enhancing it. The second point was about the benefit that researching professors are in the classroom.
