My love for programming, desire to learn various applications and latest technologies and contributing my part of it, propels me to apply for a Masters in Computer Science. I plan to study at graduate level in the area of Computer Vision and Graphics where my interests align. I also want to get a thorough grounding in other areas which help my specialization such as algorithms, artificial intelligence, machine learning models, data analytics. WRITE SOME POINT ABOUT HOW USEFUL THESE FIELDS ARE?
With good analytical and reasoning skills, my interests always lied with maths, science and technology at the school level. Pursuing my interests, I entered the Bachelor of Technology Program at Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, ranked the top college in India and graduated with a Major in Computer Science and Engineering and a Minor in Mathematics. During my time here, I have been exposed to vast and diverse fields in computer science. Comprehensive understanding of the courses laid a strong foundation for practical applications and doing academic projects improved my understanding of the subject even better. These include creating animations for 3D models, developing ML models for detecting texts of similar languages, building a compiler for C like language, working on Operating Systems, databases and a lot more intriguing projects.
To explore my interest in vast expanses of software and quant, I took up various internships to gain more experience in the industry. In Winter of 2015 and Summer of 2016, I interned at Tavaga and Infurnia, where I worked as an android and web application developer. Further in 2017, I interned in Goldman Sachs, working on machine learning models relating to gaussian mixture models. I had taken up the pre placement offer from Goldman Sachs and started out as a Risk Strat Analyst in 2018, focused on building risk models in Interest Rate space that help capture the Market Risk a portfolio is exposed to. Along with this I worked towards improving the existing risk engine, optimizing various components of it from data sourcing to the scenario computations resulting in large compute savings.
Looking to take up more challenging problems in a Fintech role, I moved to Marquee Engineering, also being promoted to Associate. This role has given me a lot of global exposure and with the team building a relatively new product made me feel like working in a startup. With clients across the world, I had been actively involved in interactions with them along with sales, product and design teams to cater the requests and develop the product in a streamlined and planned manner following the SDLC principles. We built the portfolio analytics tool which enables hedge funds, institutional clients to estimate their portfolio’s performance, understand their factor risk and attribution profile and compare their active risk with benchmarks, hedge their portfolios and trade with GS, look at pre-trade, liquidity analytics and understand their environmental profile by looking at Carbon Emissions and ESG metrics. Having worked on diverse tech stacks building end to end web applications using best coding principles in Java, Python, React and other proprietary tools, my technical skills have improved a lot by picking up new languages and tools.
During my time at Goldman Sachs, I have equally grown professionally and personally. I learnt to be responsible for my roles, own the product I build, deliver timely results, leadership skills, communicate my ideas to a large group, and be able to balance work and personal life, which by serving as a sports secretary for my department laid the foundations for. I have mentored interns who were reporting to me along with other junior analysts in the team, and actively involved in hiring employees globally. Though I am excelling at my role and delighted by the experience, I have a lot to learn and working for 4 years in the industry, I feel it is the right time in my career to continue with higher studies. WRITE A PROPER TRANSITION TO THIS FIELD?
I was fascinated by computer graphics during my final year, building animations for the 3D models I modeled and rendered and would like to pursue this area as my specialization. PROVIDE A LINK TO THE PROJECT VIDEO? In recent years computer vision and graphics has changed the way we view the world. The field is advancing rapidly and its applications continue to expand in areas of great societal value. I am excited with the numerous applications graphics and vision field has to offer in the modern day world(WRITE ABOUT GROWING. . . ) like building simulation environments, self-driving cars, facial recognition, in the field of medicine, robotics, etc. , and want to contribute my part in these. ADD SPECIFIC AREAS OF INTEREST/SPECIALIZATION IN VISION AS WELL. During my tenure at Georgia Tech, I want to master key foundations of 3D modeling, interaction and animations for these models by learning how to simulate and control dynamic systems, understand techniques on image formation, perception, detection, reconstruction, pattern recognition and other applications. Further I would like to learn more about virtual environments to be able to use my knowledge on the numerous possibilities this discipline has to offer. I also want to improve my knowledge(BETTER WORDING HERE) in machine learning and artificial intelligence and apply these techniques towards data driven modeling, animations, simulations and various other applications in the area of computer vision. WRITE SOME STRONG POINT HERE ABOUT THE CHOICE OF FIELD. My diverse background, strong academic performances and a solid work experience prepare me well for graduate school. Being a premier and esteemed institute, Georgia Institute of Technology attracts some of the best brains from all over the world. Having interacted with my friends and seniors, I feel Georgia Tech is a wonderful place to be at, one that gives an individual a lot of scope for expansion. Due to the plethora of available opportunities, I believe that I will be able to gain higher exposure and with it, a deeper understanding of various problems in my field of interest. I am confident my exposure to this course would quite improve my knowledge base and add great value in enabling me to realize my personal and professional goals. With my experience and skills I can make valuable contributions to the department and university guiding younger generations of undergraduates.
Post my masters, I wish to work PROFESSIONALLY? in an R&D facility(BETTER WORD? ) applying the core principles and approaches of Computer Science, together with specialized knowledge in graphics and vision, to analyze and solve current and emerging problems, and remain engaged as the field develops.
