Nowadays, more and more concern towards environment is being shown by society than ever before. Some people say that main threat to it is the loss of certain animals and plants species, while others opine that there are several other issues that require our attention. This essay will look at both views and in the end opinion in favor of one will be given.
On one hand, there are people who give flora and fauna greater importance argue that their loss disturbs the food chain. If an animal is lost from an area than their predator, which feed on it will also be lost. For instance, Pakistan observed a significant decline in its snow leopard population in recent decade due to the fact that their common prey was heavily hunted by locals. Adding further, loss of any plant which is used by humans as food source would directly affect us. Thus, their loss cannot be bearded at any cost.
On the other hand, matters like climate change and pollution are much more significant in the eyes of some. Temperature of the earth is rising day by day, as a result weather pattern is altered resulting in more floods, heavy rainfalls and severe drought in some areas. All of this directly affects the food supply. For example, citizens of Kenya are at risk of famine due to three years of consecutive no rain. Poor management of urban and industrial waste is another dilemma of the century. Hazardous water from factories is being poured into rivers and rubbish is burned by authorities to get rid of it is further worsening the situation. Clearly, it can be seen that how badly poor waste disposal and bad weather can have its affects.
In sum, one cannot deny the importance of biodiversity as any disturbance to it could affect whole life on planet but in my view if we do not tackle problems like global warming and trash management than it will pose greater threat to humanity.
