In 1967, the amount of CO2 released by an individual in the UK was highest, at more than 10 tonnes, while the quantity of CO2 emissions in Sweden stood at just over 8 tonnes per person. By contrast, there were only nearly 2 tonnes of CO2 emitted by a Portuguese citizen. Meanwhile, approximately 4 tonnes of CO2 were produced by each person in Italy. In 2007, the quantity of CO2 emissions in the UK decreased slightly to more than 8 tonnes per person. Whereas there was a remarkable drop to less than 6 tonnes in the figure for Sweden, the amount of CO2 released by an Italian increased gradually to nearly 8 tonnes. At the same time, Portugal saw a rapid rise to about 6 tonnes in its figure.
