Agree or Disagree with the statement, Pluto is Planet. 8LoQV
The Article introduces the topic of Planet. More specifically it explains why the Pluto lost its status as planet in International Astronomy Union Conference in 2006. The decision have been wrapped up in controversy ever since. The reading suggests that decision was generally accepted and was based on the new scientific information. However the lecture refutes the idea, suggesting that the astronomy community was not fairly represented in the vote to demote Pluto as dwarf planet and many people disagree with the decision. According to the reading, Pluto was demoted due to its size. However the lecturer states that demotion is mainly due to the fact that Pluto didn’t fit the new definition of the planet to have clear neighbor with its orbit. While Pluto doesn’t, neither does other planets including the earth due to presence of asteroids in their orbit. Finally the reading implies that people will soon forget the Pluto as the planet. In contrast, the lecture mentions about the petition and special ways that citizen are honoring the beloved Pluto. As per the article, in future, the children will only know the eight planets in the solar system but the lecture claims that Pluto will always hold the special place in their heart. To sum up, both the reading and the lecture holds conflicting view on this
