Recently there are several points of view on male and female equality. Women are actively fighting for their rights and opportunities, making great progress. Nevertheless, the lists of professions which don't allow to employ women representatives still exist.
Many claim that women and men have different strengths and weaknesses and there is no point to involve women in inherently male professions. However, I guess this issue is much more multifaceted than it's usually presented.
The motivation for the adoption of such prohibitions is not based at all on the fact that a woman is worse than a man. And not on the fact that she will not do some types of work as well as a man. Usually, it's explained by the ability of women to have kids. So such
restrictions are established to save the health of women: they are not allowed to work in conditions where they can become infertile or birth unhealthy children. For example, in Belarus work as an aircraft engine repair mechanic, blacksmith or ship boilermaker is forbidden for women.
However, such well-intentioned restrictions on the one hand lead to limited thinking of girls since childhood. Many women do not even think about going into a serious and sometimes difficult profession because of prohibitions or male domination in the fields of manufacturing, chemistry, and airplane construction. At the same time, salaries in these
areas are higher than in stereotypically female professions - kindergarten teacher, pediatrician, psychologist.
The question of gender taboos in professions will not be probably solved soon. Anyway, there will be no gender equality while women have 'employment stop lists'.
Governments perceive a woman not only as a means of increasing the population but as a person capable of making a choice.
