The two pie charts illustrates the share of yearly expenditures by local authorities in Someland in three different years. It is clear that, in each of the given years, the proportion of total spending for higher education was by far the highest. According to the pie chart, in 1980, 35% of total expenditure went on higher education, with that for k-12 education representing exactly a third. The figures for transportation and health and human resources were not quite as high as that, each at approximately 15%. Next comes environmental services and other expenses, each at around a small farction. After increasing slightly to 45% in 1980, the percentage of annual spending for higher education stood at two fifths. Turning to k-12 education, the figure dropped to nearly one fifth at the end of the period. Looking at transportation, 6% of annual expenditure was allocated to that in 1990 before rising to a peak of 22% in 2000. Despite slight fluctation, the figure for health and human resources decreased to 10% at the end of the period.
