The three diagrams depict the changes that West Park Secondary School has undergone since it’s construction in 1950, in intervals of 30 years. Initially when it was constructed, it had a main road and the rest of the area was divided into four almost equal segments for houses, school, farmland and playground. In 1980 the farmland was converted into a sports field while the houses were replaced by a car parking area and an additional science block for the school. 30 years later, in 2010, the sports field was drastically reduced in size along with the playground and combined they took up the space which was previously designated for the playground alone. The initial space allocated for the sports field was used to extend the car parking area. Clearly, the importance and number of cars had surged to the extent where parking space became a priority. People were more concerned about commuting convenience than about giving the students the enough scope to engage in sports.
