Overall, London has the oldest railway system with the longest route out of all area given; however, the railway system with the most number of passengers annually was Tokyo, followed by Paris and London. It is also noticeable from the table that Kyoto has the shortest railway as well as the lowest number of people being on board.
With regard to the date when the railway was opened, being used by the public first in 1863, London’s railway is the first one to be opened, followed by Paris, Tokyo, Washington DC and Kyoto. Being opened in 2001, the underground railway system of Los Angeles is the newest out of six cities examined; however, it was only 28 kilometres long. This figure for Kyoto was only 11 kilometres, compared to up to 394 and 199 kilometres in London and Paris respectively.
Tokyo’s railway system had precisely 1927 million passengers yearly, far exceeded that of Washington DC, Los Angeles and Kyoto, with respective figures being 144 million, 50 million, and 45 million. In addition, the number of passengers using London’s underground railway per year was 1191 million, which was 30% higher than that of London.
