The table illustrates the sizes of class used by grade schools in New Zealand from 2000 to 2004. There are two types of class sizes (small size and big size), and the units are measured in percentage. Overall, in this five-year period, grade schools in New Zealand applied small size class in their classroom setting—which occupied up to 30 students, as opposed to big size with more than 30 students in a room. The data shows from 2000 to 2001, small size class was a highly popular choice which dominated the statistics by more than 90% (around 1, 800, 000 to 1, 900, 000 schools), whereas during this period only less than 10% of grade schools applied the big size class setting (about 180, 000 schools). In 2002, there was a sudden increase in popularity for the big size class to be applied in schools, where the number rose up almost thrice the amount of the preceding year (at 28%, or around 800, 000 schools).
