The table gives information about 6 kinds of housing choices made by international students who are studying English in the town of Hamilton. Overall, the preferred accommodation is sharing a student flat, while students who have their own home are only 1%. However, there are a number of advantages and disadvantages for each of the solutions. Firstly, the highest number of students chose to live in a shared flat (34%) or in a homestay (31%). Both of these accommodations have among the highest general ratings, being 5 stars for the former and 4 stars for the latter. However, homestays are located further away from the city centre (15 km) compared to the student flat, which is 5 km distant. In addition, the cheapest housing solutions have a low percentage of students, too. For instance staying with relatives is considered by 11% of the students and living in their own home by only 1%. They can be disadvantageous because not only are they placed 20 km away from the centre, but also they don’t provide a good development of English skills. Moreover, one-room apartments are chosen only by 8% of the students, having the most expensive cost (250 dollars/week) and an overall rating of just 2 stars.
