The number of visitors seen by Heathrow shows a general upward trend with slight fluctuations in between while Gatwick sees a steady rise in the number of visitors, which peaks in 2003. Whereas, the number of travelers visiting Stansted can be seen increasing and then leveling off in the latter half of the period in question.
Heathrow saw a steep rise in the number of visitors from 27. 2 to 48. 2 million between 1998 and 2000 but there was a steady decline from 2001 to 2002 before the figure finally settled at 45. 6 million visitors in 2003. Gatwick, on the other hand, saw a consistent uptick in the number of people traveling across it with the largest number being 69. 3 million visitors in 2003, which placed it at the top relative to Heathrow and Stansted. While, Stansted showed a general increase in the number of visitors from 1998 to 2001, peaking at 43. 3 million however, it did not change in the subsequent years and the same number was maintained between 2002 and 2003.
