More than half of the total houses in the year 1991 were owned and the proportion increased from 60% to 70% in 2007. Properties that were privately rented stands the same in both the years at 11%. Furthermore, the least portion has been assigned to social housing which was at 6% in 1991 and declined to a mere 2% in 2007. Out of the whole 27 million homes in 2007, only 17% were socially rented as compared to 1991 where this figure was slightly up at 23%.
