Overall, the number of fishers in Asia was the highest in the world. To begin with 1970, the fishermen lived in Asia approximately 9 million. Close behind was Africa with 1. 3 million, while South America’s fishers come third with 1. 2 million, a slight difference compared to Africa. Lastly, North America and Europe were two countries with the lowest numbers of fishers with around 0. 5 million and 0. 6 million respectively. In 1980, compared to 1970, the figure of fishermen in Asia, Africa, and North America rose dramatically. On the other hand, the number in Europe declined slightly. Especially, South American fishers remained constant at over 1. 2 million.
