In 1995, the number of overseas students began at approximately 10 thousand, after that year until 1998, it increased rapidly to 50, 000. Following 1998, the students population remained steady at fifty thousand. Over three years from 2000 to 2002, there was a staggered trend of the number of between 50 thousand and 60 thousand. The next major change came after 2002, the international students grew dramatically until reaching a peak at 80, 000 in 2003. The next year, the population of abroad students decreased with fluctuation from 80 to 20 thousand between 2003 and 2007. In later year, the number of students stayed constant at nineteen thousand.
