Overall, the higher the percentage of household appliances, the lower the number of hours of housework per week. The first line graph shows the percentage of households with electrical devices such as washing machine, refrigerator and vacuum cleaner. In 1920, the proportion of households with refrigerator accounts for only 0% compared with washing machine and vacuum cleaner at 40% and 30% respectively. However, it increased sharply to overtake the remaining 2 devices in 1960 was 90% and the remaining 2 devices made up 70%. About twenty years later, the proportion of households with refrigerator peaked 100%, followed by the vacuum cleaner increased to 90%, but the washing machine decreased to nearly 60%.
