Overall, the total visitors increased and this trend was followed by both the visitors staying on the island and on cruise ships. At first, in 2010 the number of tourists staying on cruise ships was about 0. 2 million which increased by 2 lakh to reach 0. 5 million in 2011. Then, it experienced a slight decrease to reach the same as in 2010 to 0. 3 million. It then experienced a sharp exponential increase by more than 6 times to reach 2 million in 2017. Similarly, visitors residing on island was about 7lakh in 2010 which remained stable till 2011 after that, it showed a moderate increase to reach 1. 5 million in 2013. It than remained constant till 2015 which decreased by 3lakhs to reach 12lakh in 2016. In addition, it climbed again to reach 1. 5 million in 2017 which was 3 times the rise from 2010.
