If we compare the trends of overseas and local students in enrolments in Australian Universities in the last 10 years, the graph shows that trend has increased exponentially for overseas students but it is not the same for local students. Although the total number of students has increased over the decade for both the overseas and the local categories but the trend in growth in terms of commencement number is that sharp. For overseas students, the graph shows a quadruple increase from 20000 to 80000 in terms of total students entered in Australia and a double increase from around 20000 to 40000 in terms of commencement in Australian Universities. For local students, the trend is not that encouraging, especially in terms of commencement. Although the total number of students has increased from 400000 to 60000 over the last 10 years but the commencement number has remained almost the same and this is a matter of concern for the local government to encourage the local students to take admission in the local Universities rather than moving out to other countries. This will also raise the concern of local skilled labour in Australia if this trend tends to continue.
